Creative retreat

Beginning on May 28, 2023, the house will be closed for the summer as we prepare for future programming. You can expect an announcement of courses, curated weeks, and programs that will begin in fall 2023.

Born in 2022 as a contemporary artist residency, Volatile House  supports and activates artistic work by connecting artists and creating space.

Housed in a 5,000 square foot Victorian, our five rentable live-work rooms are located in a large, communal manor on Montezuma’s main street. Artists enjoy live-work studio spaces, and common areas including a library and swimming pool.

Volatile House exists to support artistic production; however, it is not  production-oriented. Volatile House exists as a space apart – an invitation, not a demand. We celebrate and support research, failure, dilettantism, rooting, hibernation, and rest.

Anyone seeking a creative retreat is welcome. Artists, makers, and performers in traditional and non-traditional media are welcome, as well as those who may not identify as artists but seek time away from their day-to-day to focus and engage their creative practice.

TO APPLY:

Stays are booked in one week increments, from Sunday to Saturday. We think that booking a full week allows you to develop relationships with other residents, the House, and your practice in this space.
We understand, however, that this may not work for everyone’s schedule.

To inquire about a stay, please email volatile.parts@gmail.com directly. Please note that we’re not taking bookings until fall of 2023. Please include a brief statement of intent for your time at Volatile House.
